Samsung has just announced its newest series of SSDs, the 840 EVO series. Samsung is offering these drives in very high capacities thanks to the use of high capacity 128 Gb NAND Flash memory chips. Additionally Samsung uses its new proprietary MEX multi-core SSD controller to give maximum write speeds of up to 520MB/s and 540MB/s on the reads. Additionally there are up to 98,000 IOPS, though performance is lowest on low capacity drives and increases with size.
These new drives will come in 120/250/500/750/1000 GB capacities in the 2.5 inch form factor. The drives will hit the market in the next 1-2 months and prices start from $109.99 for the 120GB up to $649.99 for the 1TB drive excluding sales taxes.
