Samsung has unveiled a brand new notebook mechanical hard drive. This drive utilises two 500GB platters in the standard 2.5″ form factor to provide laptops with a large amount of storage. The hard drive itself is 9.5mm high so will fit in nearly all laptops, netbooks and gaming laptops.
The new technology uses advanced format technology or AFT which increases the amount of storage in a given area. The new technology also gives a 7% boost to data transfer speeds and 8% decline in power consumption.
The drive is a Sata II 3GB/s drive, it has an 8MB cache and is optimised for low noise and low power consumption. In addition it has anti-shock protection to prevent data loss. The Samsung M8 1TB 2.5″ drive will retail at $130 or £80.
