Samsung has officially begun mass production of its latest SSD, the PM9E1, which is being hailed as the industry’s most powerful PC SSD for artificial intelligence (AI). This new solid-state drive (SSD) leverages Samsung’s in-house 5-nanometer controller and its eighth-generation V-NAND (V8) technology to deliver exceptional performance and power efficiency.
The PM9E1 is designed for AI-driven personal computers and offers significant improvements over its predecessor, the PM9A1a. It’s a step forward for users who need high-performance storage solutions that can handle intensive workloads such as gaming, AI-generated content, and high-resolution videos.
Samsung’s Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning, YongCheol Bae, emphasized the potential impact of this new SSD, stating, “Our PM9E1 integrated with a 5 nm controller delivers industry-leading power efficiency and utmost performance validated by our key partners.” Bae highlighted that the PM9E1 will enable global customers to effectively manage their AI portfolios in the rapidly evolving on-device AI market.
This SSD, equipped with an eight-channel PCIe 5.0 interface, achieves sequential read speeds of up to 14.5 gigabytes per second (GB/s) and write speeds of up to 13 GB/s, making it ideal for data-intensive applications. Samsung’s PM9E1 also offers a range of storage capacities, including options from 512 GB to 4 TB, with the largest capacity being particularly suited for AI applications and large datasets.
In terms of security, the PM9E1 features Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) v1.2, which provides enhanced protection against supply chain attacks. This ensures that the SSD remains secure during production and distribution.
