Samsung Galaxy S6 is known to have great shooter. It is the first one in long time to challenge Apple’s offering, iPhone 6. An XDA-Dev member, Bananaz has posted a thread about his device sporting different camera module than what is previously reported. There is a discussion taking place where users are posting about their device’s shooter variant. His device boasts Samsung made ISOCELL sensor (SLSI_S5K2P2) instead of the Sony IMX240 sensor.
Samsung is known to practice such method in past. They baked their Exynos variant of Note 4 with the ISOCELL sensor while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 variant was shipped with Sony IMX240 sensor. Although different ISP (Image Signal Processing) was held responsible for String mismatch.
However, in this case, all the Galaxy S6 units are equipped with Samsung’s own 64-bit Octa-core Exynos 7420 so a similar ISP theory doesn’t work. There is no pattern of devices being shipped with ISOCELL sensor found yet. There is a comparison between the Sony and Samsung sensor done by XunknownXo here.
Both sensors are clicking identical pictures so it is not a big deal breaker but Sony’s sensor seems to do better in low light whereas Sammy’s one does bit better in outdoor conditions. This can be a placebo effect though. To check yours, dial *#34971539# and select ISP Version.
Thank you XDA-Developers for providing us with this information.
