Samsung has finally released the 4TB variant of its flagship 990 Pro SSD series previously only available in 1TB and 2TB models.

Samsung 4TB 990 Pro SSD

With games getting larger, gamers are demanding more storage and when all of that storage can be combined into a single 4TB drive, that keeps us happy. The Samsung 990 Pro is Samsung’s flagship Gen 4 SSD which boasts read speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s and write speeds of 6,900 MB/s. With the increase up to 4TB capacity the random read and write speeds have been boosted up to 1,600K and 1,550K IOPS respectively making it an ideal solution for gamers, creatives and professionals demanding fast and high-capacity storage.

Cooling and Efficiency

Faster drives often produce more heat and require a heatsink to keep them running effectively and efficiently. The 990 Pro comes equipped with an effective slim heatsink allowing for performance to be sustained over long periods, additionally, the slim design of both the single-sided SSD and its heatsink enables it to be used with the latest games consoles. Further keeping the drive cool is the increase in efficiency over its 980 Pro predecessor, which is an up to 50% performance improvement by comparison.

What Samsung Had To Say

“Today’s gamers and creative professionals require high-capacity, high-performance SSDs and Samsung’s new 4 TB SSD 990 PRO is the perfect storage solution to meet their needs,” said Hangu Sohn, Corporate Vice President of the Memory Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics. “As the demand for high-resolution content and ultra-fast data-processing speeds continues to grow, high-performance NVMe storage has become a core requirement.”

Price and Availability

The Samsung 990 Pro with Heatsink will be released in September 2023 with a Total Bytes Written rating of 2400TB and a five year limited warranty.
