Back in March, Samsung unveiled an impressive new LED cinema screen which boasts 4K resolution and HDR support. The screen, which debuted at Las Vegas CinemaCon, is coming soon to European cinemas. In fact, Samsung already launched the LED screen in South Korea and Thailand; Switzerland, though, is set to be the third country to benefit from the technology. Indeed, the 10.24 x 5.4-metre screen will feature in Zurich’s Arena Cinema next year.
To facilitate the new technology, Zurich’s Arena Cinema is also effectively redesigning conventional cinema seating alignments. However, it’s not yet clear how the cinema will its “innovative seating concept”. Arena Cinemas owner Edi Stöckli explains:
“Based on elimination of the projector beam and the high luminosity of Samsung Cinema LED screen, there are a host of new possibilities for interior design, and we are entirely removing the existing furnishings, and implementing an innovative seating concept to provide audiences with a totally new kind of cinematic experience.”
Daniel Périsset, Head of IT business at Samsung Electronics, says:
“At Samsung, our aim in advancing technological progress is to make life easier for people and enrich their lives. We have once again succeeded in doing this with the new Cinema LED screen, and are actively planning for expansion of the screens in theatres next year.”
Following the Cinema LED’s Swiss launch, Samsung aims to expand the technology into the US during 2018.
