According to TFTCentral, Samsung is planning on producing some very interesting double-wide panel designs, meant as a single display alternative for dual-monitor users. These are large panels that can be useful for those who need the extra desktop real-estate and will also support 144Hz refresh rates with options for NVIDIA G-Sync or AMD Freesync for gamers.
With a 32:9 aspect ratio, one of Samsung’s planned double-wide panels measure 49″ with a resolution of 3840 x 1080. It is literally twice as wide as a 1920 x 1080 display, hence it is referred to by Samsung as a DFHD or Double Full High-Definition display. It is a Vertical Alignment (VA) panel with an 1800R curvature utilizing a 3-side frameless design. It has stated contrast ratio of 5000:1 and will go into mass production by September 2017.
The other double-wide display will be a 44″ panel with a 29:9 aspect ratio. It is essentially two 24.7″ monitors in one with a resolution of 3840 x 1200. Similar to the 49″ DFHD panel, this 44″ panel will have 1800R curvature, 3-side frameless design and a 5000:1 contrast ratio. Aside from a 144Hz version for gamers, there will also be a 60Hz version and will boast an 8-bit colour depth. It will go into mass production around the same time as the DFHD display.
