Samsung Portable SSD T9 2TB Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Samsung Portable SSD T9 is available from today, with prices ranging from just £117.49 for the 1TB model, to £362.79 for the largest 4TB model. However, the 2TB model we tested today does strike a good balance and comes in at just £199.99. Obviously, they’re not “cheap” but in terms of build quality, features and performance, it’s certainly a fair price for what you get. You can check for up-to-date stock and prices on Amazon here.

Overview

Samsung has long been a leader in the memory and storage market, and it’s easy to see why. This is one of the nicest portable drives I’ve had the pleasure of testing. It just looks and feels like a quality product when I’m handling it. You need that sort of confidence with drives like this too, if I’m going to take it on an international trip attached to my camera for video shoots and moving vital data over to our editing suite, I don’t want something that feels like it’ll break after a few days shooting. Alas, I have confidence in the build quality here, it feels great.

Samsung even equipped this drive with a 5-year warranty, which is certainly adding to its appeal. With it rated to survive a drop of up to three meters, the protective and grippy carbon rubber exterior, and the metal main body that provides both protection and cooling for the drive, it’s ticking all the right boxes.

However, what really matters the most is the performance, and again, Samsung scored top marks here. It’s the fastest drive in its class that we’ve tested, and really, that’s all the praise it needs. It’s very fast, and so long as you have a compatible device that can deliver USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface speeds, you can make the most of it.

The only slight change I would like to see is perhaps the inclusion of a USB Type-C to Type-A adaptor instead of two separate cables, and if there were two cables in the box, a longer second cable would be great for those times I need a little extra reach. However, I’m fishing for problems when really, I’m very happy with the product.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re looking for fast, reliable, durable and easily portable storage, the Samsung Portable SSD T9 is a solid all-round performer, and with three capacities available at a range of competitive prices, it’s sure to be a big hit with content creators around the world.
