Samsung Prepares to Launch New 990 Evo and 9100 Pro SSDs

Samsung is reportedly gearing up to release two new SSD models, the 990 Evo Plus and 9100 Pro, as discovered through recent trademark filings in the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS) database. This news comes from a report by SamMobile, indicating that Samsung aims to maintain its competitive edge in the SSD market.

Samsung Prepares to Launch New 990 Evo and 9100 Pro SSDs

Samsung has a history of launching enhanced versions of its existing SSDs, and the 990 Evo Plus is expected to follow this trend. The 990 Evo Plus will likely retain key features from the original 990 Evo, such as the M.2 2280 form factor and support for PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 interfaces. The primary goal is to bridge the performance gap between the 990 Evo and the 990 Pro, offering enhanced speeds and possibly higher storage capacities.

The current 990 Evo model boasts sequential read and write speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s and 4,200 MB/s, respectively. In contrast, the 990 Pro offers significantly higher speeds, with reads at 7,450 MB/s and writes at 6,900 MB/s. The 990 Evo Plus is expected to fit between these two models, potentially featuring faster NAND and higher storage options, possibly up to 4TB.

9100 Pro

Little is known about the 9100 Pro, and it could represent a new line of high-end SSDs from Samsung or a next-generation controller. The “Pro” moniker suggests a focus on enthusiasts and professionals, possibly hinting at Samsung’s entry into the PCIe 5.0 SSD market. If this is the case, the 9100 Pro could bring Samsung back into the competitive scene for the fastest SSDs, an area where other manufacturers have been making significant strides.

As we await more details, these new SSDs could signify Samsung’s ongoing commitment to innovation and performance in the storage industry.
