Samsung Reportedly Set To Raise its SSD Prices Against Market Trends

With lower overall market demand through the latter part of 2021, it seemed likely that the price of SSD storage devices would start to fall throughout the early to mid part of this year. In fact, it’s already widely anticipated that many manufacturers will lower their retail prices by as much as 10% in order to hopefully gain an advantage with a consumer-advantaged market. – Following a report via TechPowerUp, however, it seems that Samsung may be deciding to buck the trend here as sources citing inside information are suggesting that the cost of their SSD products will be set to increase throughout 2022.

Samsung to Increase SSD Prices

At the time of writing it’s not exactly clear why Samsung would decide to put the prices of their SSD devices up. Particularly so when it seems that their direct competition is seemingly going to go in the opposite direction. – The most obvious and best answer I can provide is that their managing is hoping that the prestige and reputation of their name will be enough to continue to attract customers. Specifically, those who are perhaps more driven off a ‘name’ than actually looking into comparative performance.

What Do We Think?

Samsung is one of the few companies that can probably afford to enter into a risky strategy such as this. As noted above, it’s hard to deny that in terms of their SSD solutions, they are one of the best-known and most respected brands. At the same time, however, a lot of their competition has made a number of big advances in recent years that, from a specifications point of view, has put a fair amount of pressure on Samsung’s apparent ‘top dog’ status.

Put simply, if the price gap is enough, even those loyal to the brand may turn their attention towards less expensive alternatives. The success or failure of this move, however, will ultimately be determined by us consumers. If this is accurate though, then being a savvy shopper could well be to your benefit for bigger, better, and faster storage solutions in 2022.
