Samsung Reveals a 4TB Version of Its 850 EVO SSD

Samsung’s 850 EVO SSD is perhaps one of the company’s most appreciated products, and even though this particular SSD was already available in a rather generous 2TB storage version, the company has decided to release an even more impressive variant. We’re talking about 4TB of total storage space, which is definitely impressive for an SSD by today’s standards. The product uses the company’s latest 48-layer 3D V-NAND flash memory, and it includes eight 2 Tb stacks complemented by an S4LP052X01-8030 triple-core controller. As far as looks are concerned, we shouldn’t see much of a difference when compared to the standard 2TB 850 EVO, and there’s definitely nothing wrong with that.
When it comes to sequential transfer speeds, this driver offers up to 540 MB/s reads and with up to 520 MB/s writes, as well as up to 98,000 IOPS sequential reads and with up to 90,000 IOPS sequential writes. Available in a 2.5-inch form factor, the product comes with SATA 6 Gb/s interface, and it is backed by a 5-year warranty. The sad news is that it will cost no less than $1,499, which is obviously quite expensive. Still, considering its capacity and transfer speeds, the price is probably justified overall. Would you spend that much on an SSD though?
