Samsung Unveils Affordable 750 EVO Series SSDs

Samsung’s SSD range is commonly used in a huge range of systems due to the company’s advanced NAND flash which allows for excellent performance at a respectable price point. Even though NVMe and M.2 drives are clearly the future, the added speed comes at a huge price premium. As a result, it’s a sensible choice for most consumers to opt for the SATA interface and prioritise capacity over extreme read/rate numbers. Samsung’s Pro SSD range is also rather expensive and it’s in a weird market position. While the warranty is much longer and provides better speeds than the 850 EVO, it’s nothing compared to NVMe products like the SM951.

Speaking of the 850 EVO, this is one of the best consumer solid-state drives on the market and I’ve seen many system integrators choose this particular model. Saying that, Samsung has just announced a brand new SSD range targeting users on a tight budget. The 750 EVO series comes in 120GB, 250GB and 500GB capacities and incorporates the company’s proprietary TurboWrite, Dynamic Thermal Guard protection and RAPID Mode technologies. Un-Soo Kim, Senior Vice President of Branded Product Marketing, Memory Business at Samsung Electronics said about the new 750 series:

“Samsung is committed to constantly evolving and providing high-quality memory solutions that fit general consumer needs,”

“We have seen high consumer demand for our 750 EVO in the 120GB and 250GB capacities, which have been available in select emerging markets since last year. We want to meet the consumers’ expectation who seek a reliable memory solution to extend the longevity of their existing computers in an easy and effective way. By adding the 500GB version to the current 750 EVO line-up and supplying the drives to more regions, consumers who need high data consumption will be better served.”

On another note, the drives also feature Samsung’s MGX controller, and can reach read and write speeds of up to 540MB/s and 520MB/s respectively, when TurboWrite is deployed. According to Samsung, the new 750 Evo will ship with the standard 3-year warranty or expire once 100 terabytes have been written (TBW). In terms of pricing, the 500GB model is going to retail for $149.99.
