Samsung Unveils First 24Gb GDDR7 Chips with 25% Faster Speeds, 30% More Efficiency

Samsung has made an exciting announcement for the future of graphics technology. The company has developed the world’s first 24Gb GDDR7 memory chips. These chips promise to be 25% faster and 30% more energy-efficient than the previous generation. Samsung is gearing them up for next-gen graphics cards, consoles, AI, and even autonomous vehicles. This is a major step forward in technology.

Samsung’s new GDDR7 memory chips will be produced using the company’s fifth-generation 10-nanometer process. This advanced method increases storage capacity by 50% while keeping the same size as the previous chips. The speed of these chips can reach up to 40 Gbps, with potential to go as high as 42.5 Gbps. This makes Samsung’s offering much faster than SK Hynix’s GDDR7 chips, which top out at 32Gbps.

Big News for Graphics Cards and AI

YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, commented on the achievement, saying, “We will continue to lead the graphics DRAM market by bringing next-generation products that align with the growing needs of the AI market.”

Samsung sees its new chips as essential for powering AI accelerators, consoles, and high-performance GPUs for gaming and workstations. Their efficiency and speed will play a crucial role in shaping the future of these technologies.

The validation process for GPU manufacturers is expected to begin later this year, with these chips hitting the market in 2025. With this innovation, Samsung is positioning itself as a leader in the evolving graphics memory market.
