The next step in GDDR memory is around the corner in the form of GDDR7 which is expected to see speeds of up to 37 Gbps and next month Samsung is expected to showcase this at the IEEE Solid State Circuit Conference in February.
GDDR7 Memory
GDDR7 Memory (Via Techradar) is said to be capable of achieving speeds up to 37 Gbps all due to its use of PAM3 signaling. This allows for higher data transmission rates per cycle than NRZ which reduces the need for higher memory bus frequencies. Overall GDDR7 should offer better performance than GDDR6 as well as lower power consumption and implementation costs than GDDR6X. Samsung is also not the only company with GDDR7 as SK Hynix will also be revealing their GDDR7 memory at this event.
GDDR7 is expected to release with NVIDIA and AMD’s next generation GPUs that may release later this year. It is worth wondering whether Intel will hop on this as well with Battlemage or will they stick with GDDR6.
