What you’re looking at right now is the U32E850R monitor by Samsung, a 32-inch Ultra HD model that boasts full support for AMD’s FreeSync technology. The U32E850R’s 4K Ultra HD panel offers a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and incorporates Samsung’s own PLS technology, which represents an alternative to conventional IPS technology that’s now implemented in most high-end displays. Samsung’s offering features a maximum brightness rated at 350 cd/m², a contrast ratio of 1000:1, 178-degree viewing angles and 4ms grey-to-grey response times.
As far as inputs are concerned, the U32E850R comes with a DisplayPort 1.2a, a mini-DisplayPort 1.2a, a pair of HDMI 2.0 ports and four USB 3.0 ports. As we’ve come to expect from a premium monitor, its stand offers several adjustment options such as tilt, height, pivot and swivel. The maximum refresh rate of this model is 60Hz, but there’s not information yet regarding its minimum refresh rate. In order to take full advantage of AMD’s FreeSync, it should be somewhere at around 30 Hz or even lower.
Price-wise, the U32E850R currently retails in the US for $1,199, which is quite a bit more expensive when compared to other similar-sized offerings. However, as none of the cheaper models boast FreeSync, Samsung’s asking price might actually be justified.
