Samsung’s New Designer Has Something in Common With Jony Ive

Samsung has hired a new designer who just so happens to have something in common with Apple’s Jony Ive. Lee Don-tae formerly worked at Tangerine – the British design company that employed Ive before he started working at Apple.
According to The Korea Herald, Don-tae “will work to elevate Samsung’s design prowess overall rather than focusing on a specific product,” – something that sounds rather familiar to Apple’s arrangement with Jony Ive, leading many to speculate whether there will be a design renaissance at Samsung.
Samsung is already Apple’s biggest competitor in terms of smartphone sales and this announcement poses the question – could this mean Samsung will now become a competitor in design too?
Does coming from that same company mean he’ll be anything like Ive? No, not really. But of course only time will tell. Maybe we’ll have a better idea of Samsung’s direction when they release their upcoming flagship phone – the Galaxy S6.
