Samsung’s Odyssey G9 2021 Quantum MiniLED Monitor is Crazy!

There’s no shortage of truly amazing monitors to pick from. Just wave around a stack of cash to the tune of £2000, and you’ll find something truly staggering. Honestly though, even at a quarter of that, you’ll hardly be left disappointed. However, Samsung is looking to push things to the next level with their new Odyssey G9 monitor, and they’re pushing hard.
The new Samsung Odyssey G9 is the successor to the original monitor of the same name. However, that one came out in June 2020, which means it’s time for a big refresh. The panel technology is the biggest upgrade, taking advantage of the Quantum MiniLED technology to massively improve backlighting performance, HDR, and black levels all at the same time.

This is still a backlit panel, not to be confused with the MicroLED technology that’s set to rival OLED this year and next. However, this uses a massive array of tiny yet powerful backlights that basically solves the problem of dimmable zones… it’s all dimmable now! However, at max, this display can hit 2000 nits. That’s bright when you’re sitting in a cinema, or a big TV on the other side of the room. For an up-close monitor, that’s going to melt your eyes. Of course, that’s in HDR mode, I don’t know the nits for SDR at this time, but it’ll be good I’m sure.
The monitor still clocks in at a whopping 49″ wide using a 1000R curve and the incredible 32:9 aspect ratio combined with a 1000R curvature. It’ll deliver a 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response times, and a massive 5120 x 1440 resolution. That’s going to be one incredible viewing experience for movies and gaming!
What Samsung Had to Say
Skip to 20mins in for the monitor.
“In 2020, the Odyssey G9 gaming monitor generated a lot of buzz—this year, Samsung is levelling up the experience with a Quantum MiniLED display and premium gaming features. The 1000R screen curvature, combined with Quantum MiniLED display technology, gives gamers an experience unlike any other. The new G9 joins Samsung’s full lineup of curved and flat Odyssey gaming monitors.” – Samsung
Price and Availability
Prices for the monitor are unknown, however, the previous model launched for $1699, and I’d expect it to be something fairly similar.
