SanDisk offers a ‘mobile vault’

SanDisk Corporation has recently presented us a new product that will act as a vault for our photos to be passed on to generations: the SanDisk Memory Vault.

Principally targeted for photo storage, the Memory Vault was designed according to an online survey conducted by Harris Interactive from July 28 to August 1, 2011 among 2,294 US adults aged 18 and older. The survey revealed that 79% of U.S. adults with digital photos would be passing them down to future generations, moreover, 64% wouldn’t consider destroying their family photo collection for any amount of money in the world (not even $1 Million).

“SanDisk already offers great image-capture products, and we’ve built upon that expertise to create a new category of image-preservation products,” said Tim Sutton, senior product marketing manager, SanDisk. “The Memory Vault allows parents to preserve photos of their daughter’s first steps alongside videos from her wedding and then pass those images down for generations to come.”

Featuring easy transfer by simply plugging the USB, which is only 2.0, and dragging-and-dropping your photos/videos, the Memory Vault was also given a slick, ruggedized metallic design, which will blend in within the rest of your desktop without trouble.

Being named ‘Vault’, SanDisk needed to make it durable, and with hard drives containing moving parts, including CDs that can be scratched, the solution was found to give the longevity family photos deserve. Using SanDisk’s Chronolock technology, the Memory Vault incorporates the key elements of advanced solid-state storage to create a proprietary memory management solution. Through the conducted accelerated temperature cycling tests, simulating the effects of data retention over long periods of time, this new device allows for a consumer’s peace of mind with a preservation time of up to 100 years for all your data.

One of the question from the survey revealed that in case of a house fire, the first thing a U.S. adult would save apart from family members and pets obviously, were their family photos, although more than half of them said they would be unable to gather all of them, which makes the Memory Vault an easier product to take a run if such a scenario were to happen.

The SanDisk Memory Vault is available in an 8GB and 16GB format for a respective price of $49.99 and $89.99. What is both funny and concerning at the same time is that SanDisk also includes a lifetime limited warranty.
