SanDisk Showcases World’s First 1TB SDXC Card

SanDisk has long pioneered the market for memory cards. Sixteen years ago the created the first 64MB SanDisk SD card, 2 years ago they showed us the impressive 512GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I memory card, and now they have double that and showcased the first prototype of a card that’s quite impressive – a 1Tb (1024GB) SDXC card. Wow, that is seriously a lot of storage in such a compact card and quite the accomplishment.

The new card was unveiled at the world’s leading trade fair for photo and video professionals, PhotoKina in Cologne and it is designed for people that need ever increasing storage thanks to the new 4K and 8K standards being pushed in the device area.

“Showcasing the most advanced imaging technologies is truly exciting for us,” said Dinesh Bahal, vice president, product management, Content Solutions Business Unit, Western Digital. “Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB. Over the years our goal has remained the same; continue to innovate and set the pace for the imaging industry. The SanDisk 1TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance, and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates.”

There currently isn’t any price nor release date given for the new and impressive 1TB card, nor any further details on the speed and performance of the card – but I’m sure that we’ll learn that very soon and we here at eTeknix will naturally keep you updated as soon as that happens.
