Sapphire 7900 XT & AOC AGON Pro 34″ – Time for Some Ultrawide Gaming!

CyberPunk 2077
Cyberpunk ran surprisingly well, not that I was expecting it to be bad, but I’m running all the games on their ultra or maximum equivalent settings, but with any ray tracing turned off. Cyberpunk managed 90 FPS pretty solidly here, which is impressive. That’s using Quality FSR, but playing Cyberpunk without scaling is a bit lackluster.
Putting FPS up to performance mode saw that pushed to 110-140 FPS depending on how busy the scene was. Also, ultrawide looks so good in Night City!
Microsoft Flight Simulator
This game is such a beast and eats GPUs for breakfast, but honestly, it’s worth it when the view is this good.
Frame rates of 67 – 90 were pretty much standard, and that’s really not bad with zero scaling being used, and this game is set to ultra. The HDR and miniLED of the AOC monitor make this drool-worthy, plus, it supports FreeSync on the 7900 XT, so they work well together.
Atomic Heart
I still haven’t gotten past the first hour of this game, I’m just too damn busy, but wow does it look pretty! The 7900 XT managed around 90 FPS using Ultra and no scaling.
Add FSR Quality or Balanced, and that can be pushed to 120-140 easily enough and runs smooth as silk.
Sea of Thieves
Another one that ran great, with maxed-out settings and no need for scaling, a 185FPS is easy for the 7900 XT, and on a 170Hz monitor, well that’s obviously more than plenty.
I didn’t get an image of combat, as it’s kinda hard to photo while not failing, but the lowest the frame dipped was 174, so I’m very pleased with it.
Crusader Kings III
Obviously, Crusader Kings III isn’t overly demanding on your graphics card, but it’s a great thing to play strategy games in an ultrawide format. Being able to see more of the map is a straight-up advantage.
Plus, with frame rates ranging from 180 to 350 FPS, performance with fully maxed out graphics and antialiasing, it looks pretty crisp.
Baldurs Gate 3
Just shy of a 100 FPS in larger open areas with maxed graphics and again, no scaling be used, makes the truly fantastic Baldurs Gate 3 a joy to play too. Again, the ultrawide display really helps you soak in the unique environments it has to offer too.
It was pretty consistent too, with 95-100 FPS in outdoor and indoor populated areas.
Horizon Zero Dawn
This game was made for HDR and ultrawide, and super ultrawide too if you have an even wider format display! It looks pretty special, and for whatever reason, the FPS was hitting a software limiter of 120 FPS.
However, it was extremely constant and if I can remove that limiter I don’t doubt it would run a little bit faster too!
Quake Remastered
Want to play classic games? Well, Quake Remastered blasted by at 500 FPS minimum and that meant that input latency was extremely low too.
Frame rates North of 600 weren’t uncommon either, but hey, it’s not like this is an overly demanding title, but it still looks good, runs smooth and for an old game, scales to 21:9 perfectly too.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Sony’s powerhouse of graphics that is Ratchet & Clank runs like a dream too, 100+ FPS in busy combat, and FreeSync/Adaptive Sync worked perfectly to ensure a smooth experience.
The lowest score I saw was 92 FPS in some of the more detailed cut scenes, but at 3440 x 1440, with ultra settings, I can certainly live with that!
