Sapphire RX470 & RX580 Crypto Mining – A Beginners Guide

Anything Else?

Make Your Money Work For You

So you’ve got your new Sapphire GPU, ready for some sweet PC gaming. You game for a few hours a day, and you’re at work or asleep for the rest of the time, right? That’s when you could be mining on your GPU. The price of BTC may be way down right now, for many complex reasons if I’m honest. However, you can still mine a few dollars a week even if you only run the software conservatively.

Fingers Crossed

BitCoin and mining, in general, is barely profitable right now, but if you take a lighthearted approach to casually mining on your system in its spare time, you should be ok. It’s not going to make you a millionaire, but we’ve seen how high BTC value can go ($20,000). If it got back to those levels, or even higher, you can turn a good profit in the future. Trying to cover the cost of buying a GPU right now through mining isn’t going to happen, and reaching that profitability margin is hard. However, you can make a dent in the cost of your gaming GPU, if you’re patient.

Sapphire

The Sapphire RX580 8GB Pulse is currently available for around £370. That’s not bad given some high-end cards are near £1000 right now. It’s a 1080p gaming beast, and at current market value, would pay for its self within a year of mining. Of course, if the value of BTC doubles, the time to pay it off would be cut in half. The Sapphire RX470 8GB Mining Edition is a little over £400, and keep in mind it doesn’t have any video outputs. However, for a second card, it’s a nice addition and pretty capable too. You could pick up a GTX 1060 for about the same money, but the AMD cards such as those from Sapphire do tend to pull their weight a bit better when it comes to mining, so that’s something to consider.

Thoughts?

Hopefully, this has been helpful to those unsure how to mine any crypto at all. I must admit, I’ve skipped a lot of technical information here, albeit on purpose. There’s a plethora of information online about mining, a lot of it quite daunting.

With an affordable GPU and just a few clicks on Nicehash, even a beginner can mine BTC. How much you want to learn beyond that, is certainly your call. Do your research, take your time, and don’t over-invest into something you do not understand. Just have a little fun, and mine while you’re not gaming, it could pay off if you’re patient.

So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
