Sapphire HD 7970 6GB Toxic Edition announced

The HD 7970 6GB Toxic Edition is the card to end all GPU wars. Based on AMD’s HD 7970 GHz Edition graphics card, with an extra 3GB of VRAM added, this card is the fastest single GPU card you will be able to get your hands on. With a default base clock of 1050MHz and a PowerTune Dynamic Boost of 1100MHz this card gives great overall performance.

Sapphire has also equipped these cards with a special “lethal boost” button allowing the card to overclock to 1100MHz core and 1200MHz PowerTune Dynamic Boost, whilst the memory shoots up to 6.4GHz effective on the 6GBs of GDDR5. The highest clock speeds we have ever seen on a HD 7970 card. Sapphire provides its TriXX overclocking utility to help users with their overclocking and PowerTune adjustments.

The power controls implemented by Sapphire, named the “lethal power suite”, has an 8 phase GPU VDDC with an additional one phase each for VDDCI and MVDD. Sapphire has gone with high quality Black Diamond Chokes, DirectFET technology and a 12 layer PCB.

Cooling is courtesy of Sapphire’s Vapor-X cooler with dual 90mm fans that have aerofoil blades and dust repelling bearings. Heat is carried away from the GPU by four heatpipes, two 8mm and two 6mm. Another innovative feature is the LED temperature display on the PCB so users can monitor the temperature easily whilst overclocking on a test bench.

The product is limited edition, so will be available in limited quantities. Availability starts from today, pricing is not known but expect it to be $600 or higher.
