Price
The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 580 8G GDDR5 Graphics Card is available right now for just £258 at Amazon and most other retailers. While that does make it one of the more expensive RX 580’s on the market, it is also the fastest, so that’s understandable. Of course, it’s also around the same price as an overclocked GTX 1080 6GB, so it’s competitive regarding value for those who want to go for a card from the red team.
Overview
First of all, latest cards from Sapphire may not be the most innovative products to hit the market, but they’re still fantastic regardless. We’ve known for a long time that these cards are a refresh of the older RX 4xx chipsets. Of course, we’re keeping in mind that they’ve made a few big improvements, with the most noticeable being their new cooler design; it’s bigger, better, and stronger than ever. As a result, the use of those large fans means it’s also surprisingly quiet too. I do like that you can pop them out to clean them and that there’s a set of transparent fan blades in the box for those who may want to change up the aesthetics a little; maybe having a spare set isn’t such a bad thing either.
Furthermore, this card has been overclocked from the factory, and Sapphire perform checks on all of their cards to see which ones are the most powerful. Of course, the best of the bunch become their Nitro+ cards. However, we still managed to get a small overclock on top of that, although not much of an improvement overall, we’ll take all the extra performance we can get. Most importantly though, Sapphire have invested the time to get the most out of this chipset and the end results almost speak for themselves.
When it comes to gaming at 1080p and 1440P, the Sapphire Nitro+ 8GB is a great card, and it makes easy work of our test games even with demanding settings. Also, with it going head to head with the Nvidia GTX 1060, it’s no slouch, and as we saw, the RX 580 is sometimes a little behind or a little ahead of the GTX 1060. Most of all, they’re both very competitive and around the same price.
Overall, this is an excellent card, while the price is right and the performance is great too. The addition of removable fans and 8GB of memory are also nice things to have at this price range. Of course, the Nitro+ does have some other perks and the addition of HDR output, FreeSync 2 support, Radeon Chill and more all help add value for money to the AMD and Sapphire range. Consequently, we can’t help but love what it has to offer.
