Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 OC 3GB Overclocked Further

With the Radeon 7950 still being the hot topic at the moment, we thought that whilst we took a look at the XFX Radeon HD 7950 Black Edition and Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 OC which in their own right, come with a slightly tweaked profile with a factory overclock, you deserve to know a bit more about the overclocking side of things.

When the 7970 came out, we saw the huge potential behind the Tahiti GPU core and mainly when it comes to overclocking the core. The 7950 has carried on this trait and is offering the same overclocking headroom and we thought that it was only right if we push it as far as it can possibly go.

We are taking a look at the 7950 in the same way that our enthusiast readers would and we know that you’d all quite happily push a graphics card to its limits, even if it means sacrificing the card, right?

With that in mind and a plethora of different tools to assist us in overclocking, we sat down and started to tweak the cards to aim for the most extreme performance possible and having a little fun in the process. Obviously with having two cards from different manufacturers, it allows us to see a more indepth look into the cooling performance as we will be increasing voltages which in turn will generate more heat and as we all know in this industry; heat is the root of all evil.

Without rambling on to much, lets get straight into it and take a look at what we’re armed with today as we push the Radeon 7950 graphics cards to the limit.
