Overclocking and Overclocked Performance
We’ve overclocked and tested a fair few R9 290X’s in the last year and the Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X was one of the better performers. The core clock was only bettered by our rather impressive XFX R9 290X DD sample and the memory gave a solid showing thanks to the use of better Hynix memory chips. Generally speaking Hynix memory graphics cards always perform better than Elpida, or Samsung, equivalents.
- Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X (8GB) – 1135MHz core and 1580MHz actual (6320MHz effective, Hynix) memory.
- XFX R9 290X Double Dissipation – 1175MHz core and 1400MHz actual (5600MHz effective, Elpida) memory.
- Powercolor R9 290X PCS+ – 1125MHz core and 1650MHz actual (6600MHz effective, Hynix) memory.
- Gigabyte R9 290X WindForce OC – 1110MHz core and 1500MHz actual (6000MHz effective, Elpida) memory.
- AMD R9 290X Reference – 1100MHz core and 1525MHz actual (6100MHz effective, Elpida memory.
