It’s true that the Radeon RX 470 is not exactly a powerhouse by today’s standards, but it’s definitely not too far behind the RX 480 in terms of performance, at least on paper. That being said, this particular graphics card will probably be highly appreciated by casual gamers, especially if they don’t plan to use resolutions higher than 1080p. Sapphire has recently unveiled a very interesting version of the RX 470, namely the Sapphire Radeon 470 Platinum Edition, which looks pretty sleek. This product is based largely on AMD’s reference design, but it does feature an eye-catching silvery plastic panel on its cooler shroud, which allows it to stand out a bit.
There’s also a metallic sticker on the fan hub as well as a backplate that covers the length of the PCB. Speaking of the PCB, it comes with two fewer power phases when compared to the RX 480, and it also sports 4 GB of 7 Gbps GDDR5 memory. Other details include 2,048 stream processors, 128 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit GDDR5 memory interface, while the power is drawn through a single 6-pin PCIe power connector. With a TDP of just 150W and a rumored MSRP of just $179, the Sapphire Radeon RX 470 Platinum Edition is shaping up as a balanced, relatively powerful and very affordable solution for casual gaming.
