While most of the attention has been focused on the RX 480, AMD isn’t stopping there. Ranking below the top Polaris 10 GPU, we have the RX 470 and RX 460 which are set to arrive next month. So far, we’ve already received several leaks and confirmations on the specifications and the rumoured pricing. However, today’s leak brings some contradictory information.

Sapphire AMD RX 470 2

From the earlier leaks, the price for the RX 470 was rumoured to be set at $149 MSRP. This would have been an amazing deal, offering 90% of the performance of the RX 480 for only 75% of the price. The new rumour out, however, points to a $179 USD. This places the card at about 90% of the performance at about 90% of the price. This actually seems a bit more realistic as it means AMD won’t be cannibalising RX 480 sales as much.

We’re also getting some new pictures for the RX 460 and RX 470 from Sapphire. The RX 470 appears to be a slightly modified reference RX 470, with 4+1 phases and a Sapphire backplate. The board itself looks just like the RX 480 one and the cooler is similar but appears fully aluminium without a copper core. Power is provided by a 6pin PCIe power connector just like the RX 480. The RX 460 appears to be a custom model with a dual-fan cooler. However, it’s not known if the PCB is custom or what other changes Sapphire has made.

Given that the RX 470 may retail for $179, it leaves a lot more room to breathe for the RX 460 at $99. With a significantly smaller die than the RX 470, the viability of the RX 460 was one of my major concerns based off of the earlier leaks. With the larger price gap, the Polaris 11 graphics card has much better value now. Hopefully, we’ll get some official price confirmation from AMD as we near launch date and finally have the full Polaris lineup in front of us.
