Following the EU’s law on USB-C requirements, Saudi Arabia has followed suit to require all Smartphones including iPhones to use the USB-C charging port.
As reported by AppleInsider, The Saudi Arabian government has created a law to cut down e-waste, reduce costs and to improve the overall user experience by mandating USB-C for all phones from 2025 which will primarily affect Apple. This news was announced on GSMARENA and is more good news for a standardised cable system. This law will also apply to laptops from April 2026. This is of course good news because Micro-B sucks and proprietary connectors are a joke in which Apple are the only one really participating. People will argue that USB-C has multiple cables for data and power but at least it is still one single cable design. There is the argument of this restricting innovation which is a valid point though I’m not sure how much better you can get over USB-C other than wireless charging.
