Price
OK, this is the part that may make you a little uncomfortable, because this controller certainly isn’t cheap. As I said before, you’re paying for the stock controller, all the modded parts that you’ve chosen, as well as the time of a skilled craftsman to install the parts and create a premium finished product for you. Scuf do have a good range of preset builds they can do for you, or you can fully customise each to your hearts desire. Regardless of which options you choose, it’s a premium product and a professional service, so expect a premium price tag.
The Scuf 4PS starts at £109.99 + extras for some mods and you can customise and price up your own model right here.
Overview
For most gamers, the stock PlayStation 4 controller is more than enough. If all you’re doing is killing a few hours on the weekend playing God of War, you’ll likely not need this controller. If you’re playing competitively, as a pro gamer or just someone who likes to have that extra edge against the enemy, for online or offline gaming, then you’re going to want to take every edge you can get. This controller isn’t going to make you the greatest gamer on Earth, but as with most things, having the right tool for the job certainly couldn’t hurt.
I can see why so many pro gaming teams use Scuf hardware for tournaments, for one, it does offer slightly improved performance thanks to the high-quality analogue sticks, as well as the super cool Scuf Paddles that can give you a very clear edge in FPS titles. The visual customisation is another big win too, as pro gaming teams can build a set of controllers to match their team logo and colours.
Build quality is incredible throughout, Scuf really knows their way around the hardware and its great to see that they’re capable of changing so much on the stock controller, while maintaining flawless build quality and visual flair. The paint jobs, rubber grips, textures and buttons are all exceptionally well finished and while I must admit the price is very high on these controllers, the quality of the final product goes a heck of a long way to justifying the investment.
