Scuf Xbox 360 Controller Review

So there we have it, a custom controller that comes in a very unassuming cardboard box and to be honest I was expecting it to come encased in silk given that the total configuration came to a rather pricey £101.80 without a carry case. If you do plan on making this investment I suggest spending the extra £10.00 or so on the Scuf website and getting the case that comes with it, its an expensive controller and deserves its own little house to keep it safe. I wouldn’t feel happy just chucking this down the side of the couch when I was done with it.

One thing I do love about Scuf is the number of custom finishes, modifications and original features that are available. I recently reviewed the MLG Pro controller and was expecting to be able to compare the two, but both controllers take a very different approach at creating a custom controller. Both offer roughly the same features, where the MLG offers more after market customisation, it doesn’t offer the extra features such as rear paddles and adjustable trigger stops. The Scuf Elite is aimed at one purpose, making you better at FPS games, nothing else.

It would be all but useless using things like trigger stops in say Forza 4, but in games like Halo and Call of Duty there is a noticeable improvement in your game. Being able to gain milliseconds per shot and not have to take your thumb of that right stick is a life saver, not to mention its generally really comfortable to hold while you’re playing, not counting the minor long finger issue I mentioned earlier of course.

While I don’t personally think the Scuf is amazing value for money, many gamers really won’t put a price on having the best tool for their trade when it comes to being competitive, especially those that tour pro gaming events. I’m not really sure if I could give it our Gamers Choice award, it is very good at what it does, but it’s not very good at anything other than FPS games. This isn’t really a bad thing at the end of the day, just don’t go buying this controller unless your going to use it on supported titles. I will however be awarding Scuf our Innovation Award, it’s great to see someone bring out a real game changer.
