Scythe Mugen 3 Rev.B CPU Cooler Review

The Mugen 3 is a large cooler but it doesn’t intrude upon VRM heat sinks or PCI express lanes, and its height of 158mm is small enough to allow it to fit in the vast majority of midtower cases.

Without a second fan there would be no clearance issues at all even for motherboards with really high VRM heat sinks. If you were to add another fan and make it push-pull then you might run into issues with high VRM heat sinks, but most motherboards have low VRM heat sinks like ours does.

The shot below shows clearly (again) that the CPU cooler doesn’t block the first PCI Express 1X lane or the VRM heatsinks.

And just in case you didn’t believe us, here’s another shot showing you how much room there is between the VRM heat sinks and the bottom of the Mugen 3 heat sink tower.
