Final Thoughts
Price
At the time of writing, we do not have a confirmed price for the Scythe Mugen 5 TUF Gaming Alliance. Based on indications of the former (non-RGB) model, however, we would expect this to retail for a price in the region of £50. This, in comparative terms, makes is a highly attractive proposition. Not only does it come with sync capable RGB lighting effects, but it’s also small (ish) while still clearly being a strong performance under testing.
You would struggle to find many coolers that tick that many boxes for this amount of money.
Design and Ease Of Use
In terms of the actual aesthetics of the cooler, whether the lights are on or off, this looks good. Getting an air cooler to look attractive is always a difficult proposition, but Scythe has managed to achieve this with the Mugen 5 TUF. When the RGB lighting comes on, however, an additional scope is brought to the product that will be attractive to many.
In terms of the installation, it’s no better or worse than the vast majority of air coolers of this type. I have seen better, but I have also seen those massively worse. Although easier designs are available, even an inexperienced hand shouldn’t have any problems getting this cooler fitted and working how you want it to!
Overview
Scythe is still working on pushing their brand in the West and we are still in the relatively early days in terms of that. As such, when you encounter the brand, you may have concerns that this is although ‘trashware’ brand looking to get you to spend money on a cooler because it has flashing lights.
This isn’t, however, the case with the vast majority of their products we’ve seen. In our experience, they are well designed and made to do the job (while looking good at the same time). In this regard, The Mugen 5 TUF Gaming Alliance is no exception.
It has so much going for it and, importantly, in the areas where air coolers are often criticised. It looks good, it performs strongly, it’s relatively small, it’s quiet, and it all comes at a more than affordable price.
If you are, therefore, looking for a cooler or upgrade, you should give the Scythe Mugen 5 TUF consideration. Don’t be put off by the lack of presentation on the packaging. The Mugen 5 TUF packs a pretty serious punch and targets all of the key areas!
Pros
- Impressive performance in temperatures and particularly noise.
- Excellent value for money.
- Strong aesthetics whether the RGB is on or off.
- Another excellent product building up the Scythe reputation.
Cons
- The exterior packaging is simply awful. Limited information, provided badly, and no clear picture of the cooler.
Neutral
- Limited brand exposure might limit supply at your preferred retailer.
