Seagate Announces Licensed Game Drives Designed for the PS5 & PS4

As developers create more and more compelling PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PlayStation 4 (PS4) games, players are building up their game libraries and eagerly searching for high-capacity add-on storage options. With this in mind, therefore, Seagate has announced the expansion of its storage capacity for PS4 and PS5 consoles with their officially licensed external Game Drives available in capacities of up to 2 TB and even 4 TB!

Levelling up the company’s line of PlayStation storage for gamers, the new external hard drive offers the ultimate game vault for PS5 and PS4 storage and delivers the ability to play PS4 games directly from the drive.

Seagate Game Drives for PS5 & PS4

Specifically designed and optimized with firmware to work with PS4 and PS5 consoles, these drives are lightweight and offer plug-and-play installation in under two minutes with no tools required so players can jump straight into the action. Connected and powered with high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.0), Seagate’s add-on storage options for PlayStation consoles do not need a separate power cord, making it easy for players to play from anywhere.

Additionally, to celebrate the new Game Drive and the upcoming release of the PS5 and PS4 game, Horizon Forbidden West, Seagate collaborated with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Guerrilla to bring fans the Horizon Forbidden West Limited Edition Game Drive. Inspired by the open world of Horizon Forbidden West, the officially licensed collectable HDD displays graphics on the exterior of the drive that highlight the strength and mystery of the Horizon Forbidden West hero, Aloy. Available in 2 TB and 5 TB capacities, the Game Drive gives players the power to store their library of PS5 and PS4 games. Owners can also play their PS4 games right from the drive.

Where Can I Learn More?

Now, admittedly, there is something of a fly in the ointment here that although these storage drives offer PS5 compatibility, you can’t, of course, run PS5 games directly from them. For those of you with a rather expansive PS4 library gobbling up your console’s main storage drive, however, these certainly seem to represent an excellent option!

With shipments starting next month, Seagate’s Game Drive retails with a suggested price of $92.49 (2 TB) and $139.99 (4 TB), and Horizon Forbidden West Limited Edition Game Drive retails with a suggested price of $99.99 (2 TB) and $159.99 (5 TB). All Game Drive’s include a one-year limited warranty giving players peace of mind.
