Seagate Announces Amazon Cloud-Syncing Portable HDD

Seagate is a global leader in external portable storage devices and unleashes an impressive number of products sporting different capacities. The company’s latest creation is the Deut, an external drive based on the company’s Backup Plus Portable series. Interestingly, this drive is quite unique and employs custom software which connects with the Amazon Drive system. As a result, the hard disk automatically syncs data with the cloud and provides instant access as well as offline access.
The product utilises the USB 3.0 interface and has a 5400RPM speed with two platters supporting PMR technology. Once unboxed, the drive logins to a user’s Amazon account and downloads the files in the cloud such as photos, videos, documents and much more. Every file you’ve downloaded will end up on the drive and Amazon’s Cloud service. This is quite useful and ensures you’re not going to experience any data loss. As you might expect, the Deut is an Amazon exclusive and costs $99. Evidently, this is a hefty price increase compared to traditional portable hard disks. Saying that, new Amazon customers can take advantage of a free year of Amazon Drive Unlimited storage worth $59.99. If you don’t classify for this offer, the service costs $40-$45. The drive comes with a 2-year warranty as standard and has a neutral aesthetic design. Personally, I think it’s a little bit expensive but the price could come down over time.
