Seagate Announces DJI Fly Drive for Drone Users

Storage becomes more of an issue as drones drop in price and more people get access to them. All the footage taken has to be stored somewhere and Seagate officially announced their DJI Fly Drive to do just that. It’s an external drive with 2TB capacity, featuring a MicroSD card slot for footage offloading, USB 3.1 interface, and rugged protection.

The new DJI Fly Drive is the first product to come from Seagate’s partnership with DJI announced back in January. Back then, Senior Vice President of Seagate Consumer Solutions, Tim Bucher, said: “Seagate is honoured to partner with DJI to help UAV users tackle their evolving and unique data needs. Seagate is committed to working together with DJI to evolve UAV workflows so users can focus on what matters most – capturing data in flight to bring new and amazing experiences to the world.”

With a drive like the 2TB DJI Fly Drive, you can store over 60 hours worth of 4K 30FPS footage. That is more than 250 flights worth of content for a drone like the DJI Mavic Pro. You’ll surely run out of battery supplies before you run out of storage with such a drive.

The built-in card reader is UHS-II rated, making sure that offloading files onto the drive or your computer will be as fast as possible. After all, 4K videos do take up quite a bit of space. The USB 3.1 Type-C connector is compatible with both USB and Thunderbolt 3 hosts, making sure that you can attach it no matter your system.

The protective bumper helps the DJI Fly Drive to provide a better shock resistance against inevitables in the field. The bumper also doubles as storage for the included USB 3.1 cable.

The Seagate DJI Fly Drive will be available this summer for an MSRP of $119.99. As added bonus, users get two-month free access to Adobe Premiere Pro CC that normally costs $19.99 per month (based on annual subscription). Two months isn’t much, but definitely a welcome bonus for the drive.
