Seagate Backup Plus Portable 5TB HDD Review

Pricing and Final Thoughts

Getting 5TB of pocket storage is not as expensive as you might think. At the time of this review, you can get this very same Seagate Backup Plus Portable in red for $124.99 or £111.94. The price varies a little bit depending on the colour, so it’s worth checking them all out.

Final Thoughts

It is easier than ever to get pocket-sized storage with a lot of capacity, and it doesn’t have to be ugly or bulky either. That’s all easily proven with the Backup Plus Portable 5TB drive from Seagate. You get up to 5TB capacity that easily fits into your pocket. The drive is also bus-powered which means that you don’t need to carry a bulky power supply either.

The Backup Plus Portable is based upon a 2.5-inch drive which means that we can’t expect record-breaking performance. That said, the drive did very well in our tests and ended in the top-end of our rankings for most tests. Whether you’ll want to use it to keep a backup of your files or play media files directly from it – it’ll do a great job.

This large-capacity drive isn’t just small and well-performing, it also looks good. The combination of the white plastic and coloured brushed metal gives it a sleek appearance. The break in the design is the tiny LED and the Seagate logo which highlights the Backup Plus Portable’s activity and origin.

The added bonus in the form of the software suite along with the 2 included software trials add further value to the overall package.

Should I Purchase One?

Are you looking for a small and light drive that holds a lot of capacity? Then it’s a great choice. It wouldn’t be the one I’d pick if I was a on the road with it a lot, as it doesn’t feature extra drop or shock protection – but other than that, go for it. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it for many years to come.

Pros

  • Small and lightweight
  • Bus-powered
  • 5TB capacity
  • Great looking with several colour options

Cons

  • No additional shock or drop protection

“Seagate delivers a great backup drive with the Backup Plus Portable. It’s small and lightweight, but offers a lot of storage capacity.”
