At the time of this review, the Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Touch can be yours for as little as £49.79 or $62.49 for this black 1TB model. The 2TB model is available for £65.96 or $77.99.
There isn’t a whole lot to say to a drive such as the Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Touch besides what I said in the introduction. It is a simple drive that does what it is intended for, without breaking any records or having much bells and whistles. That said, it does what it does well. For a 2.5-inch based drive, it delivers good performance and it is also cheap.
It is a small and light drive which is great on any day for a portable drive. It is bus-powered which means that you don’t need to carry any bulky and heavy power supplies around with you and it is compatible with most systems. It connects to a standard Type-A USB 3.0 port, but it also comes with a Type-C adapter which makes it compatible with more modern systems. It is also pre-formatted to work with both Windows and macOS systems thanks to the exFAT file system. This can, of course, be changed if you like something else better.
One thing that does set the drive apart is the woven fabric on the enclosure. It doesn’t change the drive as such, but it is sure to draw attention when you pull it out. It is also very nice to touch compared to plastic or metal.
There is an added bonus in the form of software trials which are worth more than you pay for the drive itself. So, if you’re looking to get those software services anyway, it’s a really great deal. But even if not, it is still a good drive for the money and one that won’t break any budgets. So, yes. If you need a simple 1 or 2 TB drive with a nice external finish, then yes. Get a Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Touch drive.
“Seagate created a unique drive with the Backup Plus Ultra Touch. A portable drive with vowen fabric cover isn’t something you see every day.”
