Seagate Black Panther Special Edition FireCuda Review

These external drives aren’t built for speed, which I think is fairly reflected in their price tag too. If you want something super fast, then investing in a powered M.2 or SSD enclosure is the way to go. However for a cool looking drive that’s portable and packs 2TB, these are a fairly priced option. The performance isn’t too shabby though, delivering a tasty 237 MB/s read and 40 MB/s write, it’s plenty for shifting music and other media back and forth. I actually plugged this into my Xbox over the weekend and ran a temporary Plex server off of the drive while I upgraded my main NAS, and it didn’t skip a beat with 3 active users.
Again, fairly consistent performance here, and while the response times are a bit slow at times, it’s often because the drive goes to sleep to save power, but it boots up in a couple of seconds and is ready to rock. For backing up old games, or just having something to keep or your media on rather than clogging up a work laptop, it’s absolutely perfect for the job.
