Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro Ultra-Portable Drive USB 3.0 Review

Seagate have managed to cram their product into a fairly small box which is not much bigger than the device itself. The front lists which version of the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro Ultra-Portable Drive you may have, in this case we have the 750GB USB 3.0 version.

On the right-hand side they have tried to show you just how thin the device it is by showing a side-on view of the product without scaling the picture. The drive is in fact only 14.5mm in width.

Moving to the back of the box we can see the features listed in 8 languages as well as at the bottom of this side a bit more information on the GoFlex brand and the various upgrade cables that you can get for this device.

On the final side we can see the ‘Inside the Box’ section, which does include a USB 3.0 dock, a travel case and Backup software.

After taking the inside packaging out of the box we also find a few extra things included. Firstly we found the Quick Start Guide and Warranty details.

On a more useful note, Seagate have thought that because it is a ‘Ultra-Portable Drive’ you may want to take it out of the house and as such might want a travel case, so included is a leather travel case.

Now moving to the product itself, or at least some of the components that make up the product. As this product uses the USB 3.0 interface, Seagate have included two USB 3.0 connection methods. Firstly there is a standard USB 3.0 cable which is short and is designed to fit into the back of the travel case. It is perfect for using with a laptop or plugging into the front of a computer tower.

Next in line is what we could class as the desk version of the above. It is literally a dock for the Ultra-Portable drive, this time with a much more generous offering of USB 3.0 cable.

Taking a closer look at the dock you can see that the connector they have used is not quite that standard. It is a compressed version of a SATA and SATA power connector, the one side is power the other is data, all in one clever connection.
