SoftwareWhile you don’t need Software for this device to work, it does come bundled with Seagate’s choice of software. When you first plug the device in, via USB 3.0 or USB 2.0, Windows will start to install drivers and much like a memory stick it doesn’t take much time before this is up and running. Once you can access the drive you will find that the software has been stored onto the drive itself, this saves producing a CD, which you are bound to lose.

The device when first plugged in should give you the option of running the installation from the AutoPlay function, this install file, Setup.exe, will take you through various installations giving you different programs to install.
The main program you will want to install is the Seagate Dashboard, which allows you to view the status of your drive and change a few basic settings – like turning the LED lights off, and how long before the drive powers off.

As you can see there are also several ‘full applications’, Memeo Premium Backup and Memo Sync, whereas Memeo Share and Memeo Send are only free trials. While some users may find these bundled backup software useful, as they do offer quick set-up of backup profiles I do feel they do not do the rest of the drive justice, have slow performance and are quite buggy. There are several third-party, and free, programs out there that can do a better job, and like I said they are free.
