Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Pro Ultra-Portable Drive USB 3.0 Review

Final ThoughtsI do really like this device, it combines a lot of good features and due to its pretty generous performance it certainly looks to be a good device. It certainly allows for fairly efficient back-up of large amounts of data.
The software included, while it does work, and works quite easily, it doesn’t give you enough options and seems to be very slow. While it is nice they have included several programs there are certainly better, and free, third-party programs that are available that easily out perform Seagate and Memeo’s creation.
There are a lot of other good features about this drive, the fact it comes with a travel case and separate USB 3.0 cable make it the perfect travel companion. Having the USB 3.0 dock which can stay in one place gives extreme convenience allowing you to just drop the device into place when you get home. The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex brand also has, as the name suggest, a lot of flexibility allowing you to plug in different interfaces for different devices, such as eSata and Firewire. As well as this you can also get desk and network versions as well as being fully future proof as the interface can just be upgraded.
On top of all this it does look pretty good, and while that is not essential it is certainly a plus. When it is sat on your desk next to your iPhone or iPad it will look right at home.
Prices also seem fairly reasonable with the 750 GB USB 3.0 model retailing at £69.99 from Scan.co.uk or a less modest $139.98 from Amazon.com and if you look around there are plenty of good deals currently to be had, making this a perfect investment for the new academic year – or any other similar excuse. A highly recommended purchase.
Pros:
- Good data transfer rates
- Very portable device
- Looks pretty good
- Flexible interface choice
- Comes with a case
Cons:
- No larger capacities than 750GB
- Included software is pretty rubbish
