Seagate Gaming FireCuda 16TB Gaming Hub Review

A Closer Look

The Gaming hub is a hefty beast, but that’s to be expected, as it has to house 16TB of hard drives. All that platter soon adds up to some heavy metal. It adds up to 1.35KG in total, not that it’s designed to be carried around every five minutes.

It’s a nice looking unit too, and it looks like someone took a PlayStation 2 and an Xbox Series X and smushed them together. But, honestly, I’m pleased about that, it looks great, and there’s a good amount of ventilation down the sides too.

While it can be stood up vertically, you can see some rubber feet on the bottom, which will help reduce any unwanted vibrations from the internal drives.

Around the back, there’s a small sticker with the product serial numbers on it, and a bit more ventilation too.

On one end, you’ll find the power socket and the USB port. It will need external power, though, as there are multiple drives in this unit. A single USB 3 cable isn’t going to provide the voltage it requires for stable usage.

However, it really is living up to the “Hub” part of its name on the front, offering up a USB 3 port and a Type-C! Because this uses HDD drives, not SSD, there’s plenty of bandwidth left on a USB 3 cable, so you can hook up controllers, USB dongles, headphones, a mouse or anything else to the front of this hub.

Power on the drive and you’ll see a small white LED light on the front.

However, you can also enjoy a little bit of RGB with this slick underlighting on the front. Plus, this light is compatible with Razer Chroma, so you can easily sync it up with compatible hardware!

And here’s basically the same thing, but with the drive mounted on its side.
