Performance

This drive uses a slim 2.5″ mechanical HDD on the interior, the sort you would typically find within a laptop. Of course, that gives us some indication and expectation of its performance too. With that in mind, it’s not a particularly fast drive, but it’s not designed to be either. It’s broadly similar to the drives you would find in the last generation of consoles either.

However, that does mean that playing PS4 games directly from this drive means they load about as fast as they used to. Obviously, the PS5 games will not boot from this drive, but backing them up to this drive shouldn’t be too difficult.

Transfer speeds are not going to be super fast, but if you’re using this to back up larger game files, it’s likely due to internet restrictions and restoring a backup isn’t going to use data, and will outpace a mediocre internet connection; a 100 GB game shouldn’t take much more than around 20 minutes.
