Final Thought
If your NAS supports it and you want to spend the extra money, then you get get a really big boost to your device’s performance. With the nature of the Seagate IronWolf 510 NAS SSD being an NVMe PCIe drive, it comes with a great performance and it allows you to upgrade the performance of your NAS to new levels.
Especially setups where a lot of users access the NAS simultaneously is where you’ll notice that you installed the IronWolf 510. Whether you use it as direct storage or for caching mechanisms, the drive will deliver. It comes with an impressive endurance which usually is the downside to an SSD in a NAS environment. But Seagate did a heck of a job here and you get a very durable drive. The tradeoff is that you won’t get the same write performance as you would with other consumer NVMe drives. That said, it is still far above what a mechanical HDD can deliver and also above what a SATA SSD can do.
Not only does the drive deliver performnace increases, it is also backed by a 2-year rescue plan. While we all hope that nothing ever happens to our storage drives before we replace them, the sad truth is that there is a chance for them to fail. Even with the most rigorous testing methods, this can’t be prevented and as such, this is an awesome bonus to get on top of any drive.
Should I Purchase One?
Do you have a lot of users in a 24/7 environment that all access the same storage at the same time, then the Seagate IronWolf 510 could be the solution to your lag. It does costs a more than other drives with the same capacity, but it also offers a lot extra in terms of endurance and reliability. So yes, I can highly recommend the Seagate IronWolf 510
