Seagate has always been at the forefront of emerging storage technologies and invests a lot of money into research and development. Their latest creation is the industry’s first 2TB M.2 enterprise SSD designed for data centres. The 2TB Nytro XM1440-based drive can reach performance levels as high as 30,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) per watt. Additionally, the M.2 compact form factor makes it easy for data centres to accommodate this new drive without having to dramatically alter their infrastructure. Also, the SSD only consumes a mere 7 watts which is nearly half the power demands compared to similar performing drives on the market.

The 2TB Nytro XM1440 M.2 NVMe SSD features end-to-end data protection, such as low-density parity-check error correction and RAISE technology. This is useful to recover from memory flash issues and protect important data. The drive contains a power loss protection circuit to prevent data loss during a power interruption.

Brett Pemble, Seagate’s general manager and vice president of SSD products said:

“Data and time are money, and nowhere is this more apparent than in today’s enterprises, which are grappling with how to accommodate ever-increasing amounts of data without losing the ability to quickly access and process it to continue deriving value,”

“This latest version of the Nytro XM1440 M.2 NVMe SSD is the first of its kind and pushes the boundaries for enterprises, so they don’t have to sacrifice speed for access and availability. They can continue to scale operations in an efficient manner and still get the most value from their data, but without the extra overhead.”

Pricing hasn’t been unveiled as of yet, but the drive should become available in November.
