The 2014 reboot of the Carl Sagan classic Cosmos: A SpaceTime Oddysey is now officially getting a second season. Moreover, the series original producer Seth McFarlane and host top astrophysicist personality Neil deGrasse Tyson will return. As well as much of the same creative team along with executive producers Brannon Braga and Jason Clark. Emmy Award winner Ann Duryan who also co-wrote in the original Carl Sagan series is returning. The second installment is on schedule to premiere globally on Spring 2019, which Tyson confirms via Twitter.
While first season is called ‘A Spacetime Odyssey’, the second season is titled ‘Possible Worlds’. This is appropriate considering the second installment is going beyond the immediately known celestial bodies and galaxy. The new season is also going to have a companion book releasing at the same time, which will be using the same name. It is a follow-up to Carl Sagan’s international bestseller Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.
The award winning first season is the most popular series ever for the National Geographic Channels. Internationally, it totals over 135 million viewers worldwide. The next season will have a similar wide release, in over 43 languages and 171 countries on Fox and National Geographic.
