While AMD is expected to unveil its Vega GPU architecture to the public very soon, reports suggest that a secret pre-announcement press briefing is occurring right now (8th December). Sources close to VideoCardz say that AMD is staging a private press briefing, at which it could well be showing off its new Radeon RX 490 graphics card.
“Our information comes from multiple sources,” VideoCardz reports. “This usually means solid grounds to consider it as a fact. However we do not know if the event is a regional thing, or how many editors were invited. More importantly, this event is not public. It’s even less public than Polaris Tech Day, which still somehow leaked onto social media.”
“AMD is quite possibly showcasing first graphics cards equipped with VEGA graphics processor to the media,” the report continues. “It might also be a briefing before public ZEN presentation, which is expected on December 13th. AMD could make a short demo of both.”
Whatever is revealed at this secret event will likely be covered by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), so unless someone breaks non-disclosure or an anonymous source leaks information, we shouldn’t expect to find out what was revealed. However, since Polaris Tech Day, another behind-closed-doors event, was subject to Twitter leaks, there may be a few tidbits emerge over the next few days.
The official Vega unveiling could happen in less than a month, with AMD expected to have a major presence at CES 2017, which runs from 5th-8th January in Las Vegas.
“Now this is where things get interesting,” VideoCardz adds. “We have also learned that AMD is preparing another event for CES 2017, which might be a public launch of VEGA. In case you don’t remember, Polaris Tech Day took place 28 days before RX 400 series were released.”
