The autonomous driving system developed by Tesla is definitely one of the most advanced in the world, but the company is still trying to bring it as close to perfection as possible. This makes sense, of course, since we’re talking about human lives here, and even though Tesla self-driving cars have been involved in a few accidents, people seem to be content with this autopilot system overall. Not too long ago, the company revealed a video that showcased the full capabilities of its current-generation autonomous driving system. These capabilities were indeed impressive, but the video itself only showed half of the picture, as it didn’t actually showcase how this autonomous system perceives the world.
Fortunately, we can now see exactly how this self-driving platform interprets its surroundings, and more importantly, how it identifies obstacles and how it reacts to them. At the start of the video, Tesla wanted to point out that the person sitting in the driver’s seat is not doing anything to the car at all, as he was only there for legal reasons. The car was indeed driving itself, and it definitely goes to show just how advanced this autopilot system has become in a rather short timespan. You can have a look at the video below, but keep in mind that it has been sped up slightly in order to avoid boredom.
