SEGA has just announced the second game in the Total War: WARHAMMER trilogy, namely Total War: WARHAMMER II. From what we gathered so far, the second installment in the Warhammer series will include four new races, namely Dark Elves, High Elves, Lizardmen, and a mysterious fourth race that has not been revealed at the time of writing. The battlegrounds themselves will include swamps, jungles, bleak hinterlands, and enchanted isles, and players will fight for control of the Great Vortex swirling above Ulthuan, the elven homeland. Depending on their own motivations, the different races will choose to disrupt or save the Vortex, but the past part is that the entire campaign will likely provide hundreds of hours of gameplay.
Players who will own Total War: WARHAMMER I & II will enjoy access to a large combined campaign map including old and new world regions. Ian Roxburgh, Game Director, has issued the following statement:
“Total War: WARHAMMER II represents the next step in our trilogy, our vision for the most incredible fantasy strategy series ever made. The success of the first game has increased our ambition; we’re not only going to deliver a thrilling campaign in the sequel, but also an additional combined campaign, the biggest so far, for owners of both.”
The Head of Licensing at Games Workshop, Jon Gillard, also had a few words to say:
“We’re thrilled to see the sequel to last years smash hit Total War: Warhammer coming later this year. Sega and The Creative Assembly continue to astound us with their ability in crafting the Warhammer Fantasy Battles world in further glorious pageantry, with races never realised on this scale before in a video game. We are proud to be in partnership with them on this next great step in the franchise.”
No word on an exact release date just yet, but we do know that Total War: WARHAMMER II will become available for PC this year. You can have a look at the game’s announcement cinematic trailer below.
