If you’re not familiar with Amplitude Studios, we’ll tell you that it is a Paris-based studio that was founded in 2011 by former employees from Ubisoft. The team usually focuses on creating strategy downloadable games, including titles such as Endless Space, Endless Legend, Dungeon of the Endless and the upcoming Endless Space 2. Now, it looks like SEGA has decided to acquire this small studio, but that doesn’t mean that its upcoming project will be cancelled. Actually, SEGA has decided to publish Endless Space 2, which sounds like a great decision considering the fact that quite a few gamers are looking forward to this particular title. SEGA Europe’s president/COO, Jurgen Post, had a few words to say about the acquisition:
“To have the opportunity to add a studio with the growing reputation of Amplitude’s, to the SEGA family, is an exciting one and reinforces SEGA Europe’s position as a market leader in publishing high quality PC games. Culturally, Amplitude are a fantastic fit for the business as they not only produce great games, but also have a proven track record in listening to their fans and directly involving them in the ongoing development of their games through their GAMES2GETHER system.”
In turn, Amplitude co-founder Mathieu Girard, stated that the takeover represents the culmination of five years of hard work, and he seemed quite happy for the Endless Space series to be standing alongside titles such as Total War and Dawn of War, as Creative Assembly and Relic Entertainment are also a part of the SEGA Europe family.
